Team Garrett Co volunteered this January with a local nonprofit organization, KIC-IT, to help kids and young adults break the cycle of homelessness. KIC-IT is an organization based in Franklin, IN that provides services for teens and young adults who are in-between housing. KIC-IT provides housing assistance, financial assistance, access to laundry facilities, hygiene products, and pantry items for teens who find themselves in difficult times. Based upon forming lasting relationships and respect for others, the KIC-IT organization allows for these individuals to find empowerment through goal setting, connections, and sustainable living practices.
KIC-IT has been operating from a former daycare center in Franklin and found that their facility was slowly deteriorating. The Garrett Companies saw the opportunity to utilize our skills to provide KIC-IT with an updated facility for their services. Beginning with demolition of the old building, a few TGC employees consisting of Andy Kirby, Dan Barlow, Matt Yozman, Dakota Hooker, and Edgar Terriquez began the rebuilding process. Framing and hanging drywall were all completed by TGC employees who utilized their VTO (volunteer time off) to help give back to the community. Products and supplies were purchased and provided by The Garrett Co, as well as supplying subcontractors to complete MEP work, flooring, and painting. With The Garrett Companies providing this renovation free-of-charge, KIC-IT is able to allocate more funds to resources such as counseling services or financial assistance for at-risk teens.
Volunteer Time Off
The Garrett Companies encourages employees to be engaged with their communities and supports efforts to donate time and energy toward charitable causes. Team members are eligible for 40 hours of Volunteer Time Off (VTO) per year. This benefit is intended to provide time for all employees to engage in charitable causes and is a method for TGC to bring positive impacts locally through the passion and energy of our employees.
