You don’t have to look far to find a team member who embodies TGC’s core value of growing team members in their careers. Just find Edgar Terriquez! When first coming on board in 2019, Edgar knew he wanted to start a career in Construction Management, and he also knew that TGC was the place he wanted to be, based on his impression of the company’s culture. But with minimal management experience under his belt, he was not sure what he could expect for his own career path.
In just a few short years, Edgar has progressed from an internship role (May 2019, Construction Intern) to an Engineer, to a Mentor for the Engineers, and most recently received a promotion in 2021 to Construction Project Manager. Edgar has personal sources of motivation that have helped along the way, mentioning his family, who has “always supported me in whatever decision I have made good or bad.” He also creates goals for himself and holds himself accountable to a personal set of values. In addition, Edgar gives large credit for his success to his peers and teammates who have supported him along the way. Edgar mentioned several key individuals who made a big impact, saying, “The Construction Committee (Andy, Steve, and Jonathan), Shane, and Matt have always been there to answer any questions. And starting out that was very, very many. They have all pushed me not only to be a better person but a better team player as well. I can truly say I wouldn’t be in my current position if it wasn’t for these guys who have helped answer my questions or understand the processes.”
So, what is Edgar’s next big goal? With his recent promotion, he’s eager to learn and master the role of Project Manager. Eventually, as he builds his knowledge in the field, he has his eye on evolving from day-to-day operations to the business end of construction. Wherever he ends up, he knows the future is bright and opportunities are ripe within TGC.
